Remove two or three screws securing the traction relay housing to the starter drive gear cover.
Turn the relay to disengage it and remove it from the starter housing, being careful to keep the adjusting shims intact.

Install the solenoid relay together with the adjusting shims in place and rotate it so that it occupies the correct position on the flange of the starter front cover (figure 13.17).
Tighten the mounting screws.
If new parts have been installed, the motor should be removed to check the pinion clearance.
