A pinion-type starter is installed in all vehicles covered in this manual. However, depending on the type of transmission installed and the model, starters of varying power ratings are installed, or, for diesel engines, also of different designs. This is, however, only found in starters with a power rating of 2.0 kW or higher. This starter is integrated into the engine's gearbox and should not be disassembled. All other starters have the same design. When the ignition key is turned to the start position, the pull-in winding switch, mounted on the generator cover, is turned on. This causes the starter drive to contact the flywheel ring gear.
