Starter 0.85-0.95 kW
This starter is installed in cars with 1.6L, 2.0L 8-valve and DOHC engines.
Figure 253 shows how the starter is installed.

- Disconnect the battery cable.
- Mark the electrical wire on the pull-in switch and disconnect it.
- Place the front of the car on jack stands.
- With the pump-carburetor engine installed, unscrew the protective shield of the intake manifold.
- Loosen the mounting bolts on the flywheel housing and remove the starter from the car wall. The starter is installed in the reverse order of removal.
- Tighten the bolts to 37-52 Nm. Tighten the intake manifold shield bolts, if necessary, to the same torque. Tighten the nuts on the top side to 19-25 Nm.
Starter 1.3 kW
This starter is installed on a 2.0-liter engine with 12 valves. The mounting is shown at the bottom of Figure 253.
- Disconnect the wire connecting the battery cable to the body.
- Pull out the plug from the back and unscrew the wire from the pull-in winding switch terminal.
- Place the front of the car on jack stands and loosen the starter bolts. Finally, remove the lower starter bolts.
- Remove the starter from the car wall.
Installation is carried out in reverse order.
Diesel engine
The starter mounting is shown in Figure 254.

Disconnect the wire connecting the battery terminal to the body.
- Pull out the starter plug and unscrew the wire from the terminal of the starter coil switch.
- Loosen the starter bolts and remove the starter. Installation is carried out in reverse order.
- Tighten the bolts to 65-90 Nm.
