When working on the battery charging system, follow the precautions for working on the engine electrical system.
Examination
1. First of all, check the connecting wires and connections. Check the condition of the battery. Check the condition and tension of the alternator drive belt. Check the MAIN and ENG INJ fuses on the fuse box in the engine compartment. Check the battery charging indicator light (disconnect the alternator connector and ground the L terminal to turn on the low battery warning light. Do not ground terminal S).
2. Turn on the ignition and check the voltage at the generator connector.
- A) Terminals B and S: battery voltage.
- b) Terminal L: approx. 1 Volt.
3. Start the engine and check the voltage at the generator terminals again.
- A) Terminals B and S: 14.1-14.7 Volts.
- b) Terminal L: 13.2-13.8 Volts.
4. Check that when the engine speed is increased, as well as when additional electrical equipment is turned on, the voltage generated by the generator does not fall below 13 Volts and does not rise above 15 Volts.
5. Replace generator if necessary.
