When working on the battery charging system, observe the precautions provided for working on the engine electrical system.
Examination

1. First of all, check the connecting wires and connections. Check the battery status. Check the condition and tension of the alternator drive belt. Check the MAIN and ENG INJ fuses in the engine compartment fuse box. Check the battery charge indicator light (disconnect the generator connection connector and ground the L terminal to turn on the battery discharge indicator light. Do not ground terminal S).
2. Turn on the ignition and check the voltage at the generator connection connector.
- a) Terminals B and S: battery voltage.
- b) Terminal L: approximately 1 Volt.
3. Start the engine and check the voltage at the generator terminals again.
- a) Terminals B and S: 14.1–14.7 Volts.
- b) Terminal L: 13.2–13.8 Volts.
4. Check that when the engine speed increases, as well as when additional electrical equipment is turned on, the voltage generated by the generator does not drop below 13 volts and does not rise above 15 volts.
5. Replace the generator if necessary.
