The engine starting system consists of a battery, starter, solenoid relay and connecting wires. The solenoid relay is located on the starter.
When working on the engine starting system, observe the precautions provided for working on the engine electrical system.
Checking the operation of the starter and solenoid relay
1. Pull-in relay
2. Starter
3. Vice
4. Ignition switch
Examination
1. First of all, check the connecting wires and the reliability of the connections. Check the battery charge. Check the reliability of the starter fastening. Check the fuses and the interlock switch on the transmission.
2. If the starter turns slowly, check the voltage supply to the starter. It should not drop below 8.0 volts.
3. If the starter supply voltage is OK, but the starter does not work, remove the starter and check the operation of the solenoid relay. Replace the starter or relay if necessary.
Removal and installation
1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
2. Remove the air filter and air intake duct.
