1. Leaks often occur due to worn cuffs. Replacement of cuffs is rather simple as for this purpose it is not required to remove transmission from the car.
2. The cuffs are located in the side holes of the transmission, where the drive shafts are removed from it. If a seal leak is suspected, raise the vehicle and place it on jackstands. If the cuff is really leaking, then traces of oil can be found under it.
3. Remove drive shafts (see chapter 8).
4. Using a screwdriver or pry bar, pull out the cuffs from the bores (pic. 7.4).
5. If the cuff cannot be removed with a screwdriver, then there is a special tool for this.
6. Lubricate the working edge of the cuff with transmission fluid, insert the cuff into the socket and press it into the crankcase. For pressing, use a special mandrel, and in the absence of one, just a piece of pipe with an outer diameter slightly smaller than the outer diameter of the cuff. Press the cuff without distortions until it stops at the bottom of the socket.
7. Install drive shafts. Try not to damage the working edge of the cuff, otherwise it will flow again.
