Examination
1. Before checking the switch, make sure that the MAIN fuse is intact (15 A) in the fuse box under the hood. If the fuse is blown, replace it. If the fuse blows again immediately, check the circuit from the ignition switch to the reversing light switch. To troubleshoot the circuit, use the wiring diagrams at the end chapter 12.
2. Place the shift lever in the reverse position and turn on the ignition. The reversing lights should be on. Switch off the ignition.
3. If the lights do not light up, check that the bulbs in the rear light unit are not missing.
4. If the bulbs and fuse are intact, disconnect the electrical connector from the reversing light switch (pic. 3.4). Connect an ohmmeter to the terminals of the connector.
5. When the lever is turned to the reverse position, the switch contacts must be closed. When moving the lever to any other position, the contacts must be open.
6. If the test reveals a malfunction, replace the switch.
7. If the switch is working, and the reversing lights do not turn on, check the quality of the ground loop. If the dimming is not in doubt, check the wires for an open or short circuit.
Replacement
8. Disconnect from the switch an electric socket.
9. Turn out the switch from the case of transmission.
10. Discard the old washer.
11. Screw in the new switch with a new washer.
12. Connect the connector.
