Steering column — removal and installation (Mazda Capella GC)

To remove and install, follow these steps:.

Disconnect the cable from the negative battery terminal.

Remove the steering wheel.

Remove the steering column cover and disconnect the wiring harness connectors.

Remove the heater fan duct.

Remove the combination switch.

Remove the steering column lock nuts and bolts, as well as the intermediate shaft tie bolt.

Disconnect the steering column from the intermediate shaft and carefully remove it from the vehicle.

Since the steering column is collapsible, it is easily damaged after being removed from the vehicle. Be careful not to lean on the speaker or drop it, as this may weaken the speaker's structure and impair its performance.

If a vehicle has been involved in an accident that results in damage to the frame, significant body damage, or damage to the steering column, the steering column must be inspected by an experienced mechanic.
