Examination
1. Connect the tachometer. Connect the TEN and GND terminals of the diagnostic connector. On Ford Probe models with a four-cylinder engine, disconnect the idling system air valve connector.
2. Start the engine and warm it up to normal operating temperature. Make sure all electrical equipment in the vehicle is turned off.
3. Release the accelerator pedal and measure the engine idle speed.

Adjustment
1. On all models except Ford Probe models with a four-cylinder engine, connect the TEN and GND terminals of the diagnostic connector (1).
2. To adjust the idle speed, turn the adjusting screw. The idle speed adjustment screw is located on the throttle body.
