If the water pump is faulty, it must be replaced immediately, otherwise the engine may be seriously damaged due to overheating.
Examination
1. Remove the timing belt covers.

2. Inspect the water pump vent (indicated by the arrow) for leaks. If the pump gasket is worn out, coolant will leak from this hole.
3. Check if the pump shaft bearing is worn.
Replacement
1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
2. Drain the coolant.
3. Remove the drive belts.
4. On 4-cylinder models, remove the power steering pump bolts and move the pump to the side without disconnecting the hoses from it.

5. Remove the water pump pulley, timing belt covers and timing belt.

6. On 4-cylinder engines, remove the power steering pump bracket bolts (A), and the upper water pump bolts (B).

7. Remove the lower pump bolts (indicated by arrows).

8. On 6-cylinder engines, remove the water pump bolts (indicated by arrows).
9. Remove the pump.
10. Clean the pump bolt threads and the cylinder block hole threads.
11. Clean off any remaining old gasket.
12. Apply a bead of sealant to the new gasket and install it on the water pump.
13. Install the pump, insert and tighten the bolts.
