Attention: For the Ford KA model, the horn contact is built into the airbag module. If the horn contact fails, the entire airbag assembly must be replaced. It cannot be opened.
Removing
Disconnect the negative cable from the battery with the ignition off. This will erase the data from the electronic memory blocks. See instructions in chap. «electrical equipment».
Insulate the negative battery terminal to prevent unexpected contact.
Precautions: after disconnecting the battery, wait at least 2 minutes for the capacitor to discharge. This prevents unintentional deployment of the airbag and activation of the seat belt pretensioner.
Loosen the screws on the upper trim of the steering column (1) and take out the cover.
Loosen the screws on the bottom trim of the steering column (2) and take out the cover.
Remove the two airbag mounting bolts from the rear of the steering wheel. To do this, turn the steering wheel slightly to the right and left to get to the bolts.
Pull the airbag slightly away from the steering wheel and unhook the two clips.
Pull the plug from the airbag.
Carefully remove the airbag from the vehicle.
Precautions: The airbag should always be carried and stored facing up. Keep away from the airbag when it is being transported. Observe the rules for handling the airbag.
Set the steering wheel to the middle position with the wheels pointing straight ahead. Lock the steering column lock in this position.
Unscrew the screws and remove the receiving and transmitting part of the immobilizer from the ignition switch.
Disconnect plug (1) for the airbag.
Unscrew the bolt (2) steering wheel mountings. Do not remove the steering wheel yet.
Turn the ignition key to position «I», pull the steering wheel off the steering column and return the key to the «0».
Release coil spring. To do this, release the three fastening tabs (2) and pull the plug (1). At the same time, pull on the plug, not on the wire.
Remove coil spring.
Installation
Center coil spring before installation. To do this, press the fastening lug (1) and keep it. Rotate the inner rotor counterclockwise (2) and against the outer rotor until it is firmly seated. Finally turn the inner rotor clockwise (3) about 3 3/4 turns. In this position, release the fastening lug and make sure that the inner rotor locks in this position.
Attention: If there is any doubt about the correct position of the coil spring, repeat the process of centering the coil spring.
Insert the coiled spring and fix it in the fastening tabs.
Put on the plug.
Place the steering wheel in the middle position on the steering column. When doing this, make sure that the coil spring retaining tabs engage correctly above the locking pin of the steering column lock.
Tighten steering column bolt to 45 Nm.
Connect the airbag connector.
Install and secure with screws the receiving and transmitting parts of the immobilizer.
Carefully place the airbag on the steering wheel, attach the plug to the airbag. Fix two clamps.
Loosely tighten the two airbag mounting bolts at the rear of the steering wheel. To do this, turn the steering wheel left and right 90°from the center position to gain access to the bolts.
Install steering column trims and secure with screws.:
Connect the negative cable to the battery. In this case, no one should be in the car.
Set the clock.
If necessary, enter radio codes.
