Only new hydraulic fluid must be used to fill the system (automatic transmission fluid ATF), that meets the requirements.
Attention: Before pouring, the liquid must not be shaken, because. air bubbles may form in it.
Note: The illustrations show the Ford Fiesta/Mazda 121 models. For the Ford KA models, the fluid reservoir is located behind the right suspension strut socket.
Air removal
Fill the tank with fresh liquid without bubbles up to the mark «MAX».
Caution: The fluid must be poured slowly to avoid the formation of air bubbles.
Start the engine and slowly turn the steering wheel 3-4 times from lock to lock.
Have an assistant check the hydraulic fluid level in the reservoir. The level must not fall below the mark «MIN». Add fluid if necessary.
Repeat the procedure until no more air bubbles appear in the tank.
Check steering gear for tightness. Carefully inspect the pipe connections, steering rack boots, and power steering valve body for fluid leaks.
Stop the engine and check the fluid level again. Add liquid if necessary.
Note: A slight noise from the hydraulic booster after bleeding with the engine running is normal as long as the vehicle has not yet been driven.
In the event of loud noises, bleed the hydraulic booster with a suitable hand vacuum pump.
In the workshop, instead of a lid, an adapter is installed on the tank (1) with vacuum connection. The adapter, in extreme cases, can be made by yourself from a spare tank cap.
Connect the vacuum pump.
Start the engine and slowly turn the steering wheel to the right almost to the stop.
Switch off the engine and apply a vacuum of approx. 0.5 bar with the vacuum pump until the air is completely expelled from the system.
Note: The vacuum must be maintained for at least 5 minutes. If it decreases, pump up with a vacuum pump.
Finally, remove the underpressure. Turn the steering wheel slowly to the left almost to the stop and repeat the bleed operation.
Remove vacuum pump. Check fluid level, top up if necessary. Close the jar.
Start the engine and turn the steering wheel from lock to lock. If noise is present, repeat the bleed operation. If the noise level is still too high after this, leave the vehicle overnight and repeat the bleed operation the next day.
