Attention. Coolant is poisonous and must be handled with care - do not drain it down the drain, etc.
Drain
Fully open the heater cock, i.e. move the temperature controller of the heater to the red area completely.
Raise and support the vehicle.
If so, remove the lower engine compartment cover.
Unscrew the plug of the expansion tank.
Precautions: on a hot engine, before opening the plug, put a thick rag on it so as not to burn yourself with hot coolant and steam. Open the plug only when the coolant temperature is less than 90°C.
Place a drain pan under the radiator.
Open the cock at the bottom of the radiator and drain the coolant. To unscrew the tap, you can use a coin or a large screwdriver.
Tighten the drain cock on the radiator to 20 Nm.
Filling
Prepare a coolant consisting of 50% distilled water and 50% Motorcraft Super Plus 4 antifreeze or another that meets Ford ESDM-97B49-A specification and fill it into the expansion tank to the mark «MAX».
Start the engine and warm it up for 10 minutes. Accelerate the engine to 2500 rpm several times. When warming up, you need to monitor the level of coolant in the expansion tank and, if necessary, add coolant.
Close expansion tank.
Let the engine run until the electric fan turns on. Finally, let the engine run at 2500 rpm for about 10 more minutes.
Stop the engine and let it cool down.
Check coolant level and correct if necessary. On a warm engine, the coolant level should be at the mark «MAX», on a cold engine - between marks «MAX» And «MIN».
If equipped, install the lower engine compartment cover.
