Caution! Avoid contact with coolant on clothing or vehicle paintwork. Otherwise, rinse the surface with plenty of water.
Periodically and after any work on the cooling system components with draining of the coolant, it is necessary to replace the coolant. If the cylinder head, head gasket, radiator, or oil heat exchanger were replaced during repairs, fresh coolant must be added to the cooling system. This is due to the fact that the anti-corrosion additive in the coolant settles during engine operation and creates anti-corrosion protection. In coolant that has been in use, the activity of anti-corrosion additives is reduced.
When servicing the cooling system, check all hoses and the radiator cap and replace them if necessary.
Drain the coolant on a cold engine.
Remove the radiator cap.
Place a coolant collection container under the radiator drain plug. Unscrew the plug and drain the coolant from the radiator. If the plug is difficult to remove or the radiator does not have such a plug, disconnect the lower radiator hose and drain the coolant.
Disconnect the hose from the expansion tank, remove the tank and rinse it from the outside with clean water.
Close the radiator drain plug. Set the heater control knob to the maximum heat position so that the radiator and heater hoses are also flushed with a stream of water. Insert the hose into the radiator filler neck and flush the system until clear water comes out of the drain holes.
If the radiator is heavily contaminated, remove it and wash it with a special agent, following the instructions for use.
Before filling the cooling system, connect the radiator hoses and install the expansion tank and overflow hose.
Check the condition of the radiator and heater hoses, as well as the reliability of their fastening with clamps. Replace damaged hoses and clamps.
Fill the radiator to the base of the neck, then add coolant to the expansion tank up to the lower mark.
Start the engine and warm it up to normal operating temperature, then add coolant to the maximum level while idling. Install the reservoir and radiator caps.
During your trip, carefully monitor the coolant level and cooling system hoses for the first few kilometers. Tighten hose clamps and/or add coolant as necessary.
