The two overhead camshafts act on the valves via tappets with adjusting washers. Both camshafts are driven by a toothed belt. The valve clearance should only be checked every 150,000 km. The toothed belt tension is maintained by an automatic tensioner. The toothed belt should be replaced as part of the service after 150,000 km or 10 years of operation.
Since the right engine mount needs to be unloaded, a lift or hydraulic jack with wooden blocks is needed to support the engine.
Remove the V-belt (see later in this chapter).
With the ignition off, disconnect the negative cable from the battery.

Unscrew the oil filler cap and remove the engine cover (casing) by unscrewing the nuts. Screw the cap back on.
Remove the spark plugs.

Unscrew the four nuts and remove the valve cover (1). (2 - spark plug plug).
