Input shaft seal
1. Remove the transmission (Chapter 7).
2. Remove the torque converter from the input shaft.
3. Pry out the old seal with a small screwdriver or punch (photo).
Use a punch or similar tool to remove the input shaft seal
4. Coat the inside edge of the seal with clean engine oil and hammer it into place until it is flush with the crankcase (photo). The sealing lip must point inwards.
Drive the new seal into place
5. Install torque converter.
6. Install transmission.

7. Disconnect the left drive shaft or remove the connecting shaft (Section 8). If both shafts need to be disconnected, insert a wooden pin or similar to block the differential bevel gears. Do not allow dirt to enter the transmission.
8. Remove the old seal with a screwdriver (photo).

9. Lubricate the inside edge of the new seal with clean engine oil or white lithium grease. Using a piece of tubing or a large 45 mm socket, install the seal in place (photo). The sealing lip must face inwards.
Use a socket and a rubber mallet to install the new sealed drive shaft into the transmission case
10. Install drive or connecting shaft (Section 8).
