Caution! Exhaust system components become very hot, so touching them should only be done after they have completely cooled. Use extreme caution when working near the catalytic converter, which becomes extremely hot.
Raise the vehicle and place it on stands.
Replacing exhaust system components mainly involves removing heat shields (if any), disconnecting this part and replacing it.
Heat shields and mounting brackets must be installed in their original locations, otherwise damage may occur. Due to high temperatures and their exposed location, exhaust system components are susceptible to corrosion, which causes them to seize. Penetrating fluids should be used to loosen rusted threaded connections. However, in some cases it may be necessary to separate the parts using a hacksaw or oxygen cutting. The last type of work should be performed by experienced personnel.
