Air damper control cable (Mazda Capella GC)

Disconnect the cable from the negative battery terminal.

Remove the air filter.

Disconnect the choke control cable from the carburetor by loosening the clamp fastening screw, removing the cable sheath from the clamp and disconnecting the cable.

Unscrew the ring nut securing the cable sheath to the instrument panel, accessible from inside the vehicle. Turn the control handle 180° and unscrew the countersunk screw securing the handle.

Remove the control handle from the instrument panel. Remove the air damper opening indicator light mounting screw and remove the indicator from the cable housing.

Remove the cable from the rubber boot in the engine compartment wall and pull it out.

Installation is carried out in the reverse order of removal, taking into account the following.

Adjust the position of the cable sheath in the clamp so that when the control handle is pushed in all the way, very little free play in the cable is felt.

Have an assistant push the cable handle all the way in and pull it out completely – the choke should open and close completely.

Install the air filter and connect the cable to the negative terminal of the battery. Check that the indicator light is working properly.
