Removal
Remove the valve drive mechanism.
Remove the cylinder head.

Using a special tool, compress the valve springs and remove the crackers (figure 3.11). Loosen the fixture screw, remove the spring plate and springs. Use pliers to remove the oil deflector cap.
Remove the valve and place it, along with the crackers, in a separate compartment of the box with an individual number so that you can install it back in its original place later.
Installation
Place the new oil deflector cap onto the guide sleeve and lightly tap the mandrel with a hammer until the cap is fully seated on the sleeve.
Lubricate the stem of the first valve with fresh engine oil and insert it into the sleeve in which this valve was previously installed.
Install the springs and plates and, after compressing the springs, install the crackers.
Repeat these same operations for the remaining valves.
Install the cylinder head and valve train.
