The ignition distributor operates with a contactless transistor ignition system with electronic ignition timing for a DOHC engine. The ignition distributor is equipped with a centrifugal and vacuum-operated ignition timing regulator, which operate depending on engine speed or load.
As the speed increases, the weights of the centrifugal mechanism move outward under the action of centrifugal force, opposite to the action of small installed return springs, and at the same time rotate the breaker cam relative to the distributor shaft, so that the ignition is preliminarily progressively established. The diaphragm mechanism of the vacuum ignition advance regulator is connected to the carburetor by a small wire. With high vacuum, ignition timing is set earlier, but it is delayed if the engine is under high load.
The distributor of a standard 8-valve engine is mounted on the front of the engine in the cylinder head and is driven from the camshaft via a helical gear. On a 12-valve or DOHC engine, it is mounted at the end of the cylinder head and is driven by a camshaft directly from the camshaft. The DOHC engine also uses an ignition control device.
