The crankshaft belt pulley has a slot on the edge, which is marked with yellow paint. When installed correctly, the slot with the yellow marking should be aligned with the marking on the ignition panel. All lights must be turned off and the electric fan plug must be removed. The installation should proceed as follows:
- Remove the vacuum hose or hoses from the ignition distributor and plug the ends of the hoses.
- For a DOHC engine, the test terminals must be shorted to ground using a jumper wire as shown in the figure 158.

- Connect the stroboscope in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions (see also the figure 159) and direct the beam to the edge of the crankshaft belt pulley.

- With the engine idling, weld until the yellow slot on the belt pulley aligns with the pointer on the drive gear housing, as already shown in figure 156.
- Reinsert the vacuum hose or hoses into the distributor or disconnect the connecting wire.
- If adjustment is necessary, loosen the distributor bolt or bolts, depending on the version, and turn the distributor.
- Tighten the bolt(s) again and check the ignition timing again.
