Warning! Always change the brake pads on both wheels at the same time. Take precautions when handling brake dust containing asbestos, which is hazardous to health.
Drum brake elements
1. Clamping spring; 2. Front brake pad; 3. Regulator; 4. Handbrake adjuster; 5. Return spring; 6. Handbrake lever; 7. Rear brake pad; 8. Handbrake cable; 9. Return spring
Replacement
1. Remove rear wheels.
2. Remove the brake drum. If it cannot be removed, screw the 8 mm bolt into the provided hole to press the drum out.
3. Unscrew the fixing nut and remove the rear wheel hub.
4. Clean the brake mechanism from dust and dirt.
5. Press down on the compression spring, turn the pin and remove the spring.
6. Disconnect the upper return spring from the front brake shoe.
7. Disconnect the adjuster and lower return spring from the front brake shoe.
8. Remove the rear brake shoe retainer spring.
9. Remove the rear brake shoe and disconnect the return spring.
10. Disconnect the regulator spring from the block.
11. Remove the pressure spring pins.
12. Remove the handbrake cable from the lever on the rear brake shoe.
13. Lubricate the brake pad mounting points with high temperature grease.
14. Loosen the mounting clip with a screwdriver.
15. Install the handbrake lever on the new shoe.
16. Reinstall the pressure spring pins.
17. Connect the handbrake cable to the lever.
18. Connect the return spring to the rear brake shoe.
19. Install the rear brake pad to the brake shield.
20. Install the clip onto the compression spring pin.
21. Connect the lower return spring to the rear brake shoe.
22. Reinstall the front brake shoe, connect the lower return spring, and install the retainer spring.
23. Connect the top return spring to the front brake shoe.
24. Tighten the handbrake adjuster to reduce the distance between the brake shoes before installing the brake drum.
25. Inspect the brake drum for cracks, scratches and signs of wear. Check the diameter of the brake drum.
26. Installation is carried out in the reverse order of removal.
