Air Intake System (EGI) — description (Mazda Capella GC)

1. The air intake system fitted to EGI engines is shown in the figure and comprises two vacuum activated air control valves, a solenoid valve activated by the EGI control unit and air spray nozzles on the exhaust manifold. The system uses exhaust pressure pulses to draw air from the air cleaner into the exhaust manifold for more complete combustion of the fuel.



2. The system has two circuits - one for cylinders 1 and 4, and one for cylinders 2 and 3, because the pressure pulses from the connected cylinders are synchronous.

3. In the event of a pressure drop outside the set limits, the system is shut off by a solenoid valve, which vents the vacuum side of the control valves to the atmosphere.
