2. Using test leads, connect a voltmeter to the W terminals on the valve and ground. Raise the engine speed, then quickly release the throttle and check that the meter reads zero volts only when decelerating. If not, check the associated electrical wiring (photo).

3. Note the location of the vacuum hoses, then disconnect them. Pull out the wiring connector and unscrew the valve.
4. Apply air through the control valve inlet and check that air comes out only from the throttle body passage. Now apply 12 volts to the valve clamps and repeat the test - now the air should come out only from the air filter channel of the valve. Replace solenoid valve if defective.
5. Assembly is carried out in the reverse order.
