2. The first sign of a malfunctioning fuel vapor removal system is a strong smell of gasoline in the engine compartment. If you detect the smell of gasoline, inspect the charcoal canister located on the heat-insulating shield of the engine compartment (photo) and the system hoses.

3. To test the system's operation, place your hand under the canister, warm up the engine to normal operating temperature, and slowly increase the engine speed. If air is sucked into the base of the canister, the system is working properly.
