2. If there is no frame, it is possible to place the engine on a sturdy workbench or on the floor.
3. If you are going to replace the engine, you must first remove all external components to install them on the engine you are replacing. Remove the following components:
- Generator and brackets
- Emission control system components
- Distributor, spark plug wires and spark plugs
- Thermostat and housing cover
- Water pump
- Carburetor
- Intake/exhaust manifolds
- Oil filter
- Fuel pump
- Engine mount cushions
- Flywheel/drive disc
Note: When removing external engine components, pay special attention to parts that may be useful or important during installation. Note the installed position of gaskets, seals, shims, pins, washers, bolts and other small parts.
4. If you are receiving a short block, which consists of the engine block, crankshaft, pistons and connecting rods in a complete assembly, then the cylinder head, oil pan and oil pump will also need to be removed.

- Toothed drive belt
- Camshaft covers
- Front and rear gearbox covers
