Cylinder head — overhaul (Mazda Capella GC)

1. Regardless of whether the cylinder head has been repaired or not, clean it thoroughly before installation.

2. If the head was removed to repair the valves and related components, begin the rebuild procedure at step 6.

3. Install new seals on each of the valve guides. Using a hammer and pipe, carefully tap each seal onto the guide.

4. Install the valves, being careful not to damage the new valve stem seals, position the valve spring seat over the valve guide boss and install the valve springs, cover and valve cotter in place.

5. Compress the springs with a valve compressor and install the holders. Release the compressor and ensure the retainers are properly seated in the upper groove of the valve stem.

6. Install the camshaft (Section 2, Part A).

7. Lubricate the rocker arm and shaft assembly with clean engine oil. Install the assembly and tighten the bolts in the correct sequence to the specified tightening torque Specifications (Section 2, Part A, Chapter 11).
