Pic. 13.61. Connecting a resistor between a contact «Y» connector and «weight» car to check the fuel gauge
Connect a 8 to 96 ohm resistor between the «Y» connector and «weight» car (pic. 13.61). Check that the wires are not touching «masses» vehicle and turn on the ignition.

Wait 2 minutes for the pointer readings to stabilize, then, guided by fig. 13.62 or 13.63, compare the actual pointer readings with the expected values.
If possible, repeat the test with other resistance resistors within the specified limits. Switch off the ignition before changing resistors.
If the pointer shows a full or empty tank, regardless of the resistance of the resistor, then there is a short or open in the sensor wires. Otherwise, incorrect readings are caused by a malfunction of the fuel gauge itself.
Warning! Gasoline is extremely flammable, when working with elements of the power system, the use of fire, sparking devices, open fire hazardous lighting devices and smoking is prohibited. Sparks should be avoided when working with wires and electrical devices.
