Figure 13.58. Location of the main elements of the constant speed control system (cruise control): a – models with a switch block; b – models without switch block; 1 – switch; 2 – brake pedal switch; 3 – safety switch (auto); 4 – throttle valve drive; 5 – clutch pedal switch; 6 – control unit; 7 – main switch
The system allows the vehicle to maintain a constant speed regardless of road inclination and other factors, without the driver having to press the accelerator pedal. The main elements of the system are shown in the figure 13.58.
Figure 13.59. Checking the free play of the control cable of the constant speed drive system
If any faults are detected in the system, check the corresponding fuse, the connection of the drive vacuum hose and its condition, and the adjustment of the drive control cable. The free play of the drive control cable in the off position should be 10–30 mm (figure 13.59).
On vehicles with a manual transmission, a switch on the clutch pedal disengages the cruise control system when the clutch pedal is pressed. If you need to replace the switch, remember that it affects the height of the clutch pedal. Turn the switch so that the clutch and brake pedals are at the same level, then secure it with the lock nut.
Any other fault in the cruise control system should be repaired at a car repair shop.
