Examination
Check the operation of the interlock switch by making sure that the engine only starts when the selector lever is in the Park or Neutral positions.
Follow the wire route from the switch to the connector and disconnect the connector.
Use an ohmmeter to measure the resistance between the switch terminals; it should approach infinity (open) in the "reverse", "parking" and "neutral" positions.

With the ignition on and the selector in the marked positions, there should be no break between the following contacts (figure 9.25):
- "A" and "B" (parking);
- "C" and "D" (reverse);
- "A" and "B" (neutral).
Replacement
Disconnect the contact connector and unscrew the lock switch from the gearbox housing. Installation is carried out in the reverse order of removal. Apply sealant to the switch threads before installation.
