Major gearbox repairs must be carried out in a specialized workshop. However, you can remove and install the gearbox yourself, thereby reducing costs, even if further repairs are carried out by a gearbox specialist.
Adjustments that can be made independently include work on the downshift mechanism, the lock switch (starting from neutral state), vacuum diaphragm and gear shift rod.
Figure 9.22. Automatic transmission: 1 – oil seal; 2 – vacuum diaphragm; 3 – reduction gear coil; 4 – lock switch; 5 – oil pan; 6 – oil pipeline; 7 – plug for determining liquid pressure; 8 – lids; 9 – power steering lock; 10 – working fluid level check tube; 11 – drain plug; 12 – speedometer drive gear
The main external elements of the automatic transmission are shown in the figure 9.22.
Tightening torques, Nm
- M10 crossbar mounting bolts — 44–55
- M12 crossbar mounting bolt - 95–118
- Lock switch - 19-26
- Oil pan mounting bolt - 5-8
- Gearbox to engine mounting bolts - 91–118
Caution! Never tow a vehicle with an automatic transmission at speeds exceeding 50 km/h or for distances exceeding 80 km (except in cases of towing with the drive wheels raised). Failure to comply with this requirement may result in serious damage to the gearbox, which is caused by insufficient lubrication.
