After unscrewing the filter, thoroughly clean the seat on the block and lubricate the seal of the new filter with engine oil. When installing the filter, observe the following:
- For a standard engine, screw the new filter on until the O-ring is seated, and from this position, tighten it 2/3 of a turn. Do this by hand only, without using any tools.
- For DOHC and diesel engines, screw the filter until it contacts the rubber ring and from this position, use a filter wrench to tighten it by 1 1/6 turnover.
Start the engine and let it run for a while. Check for rust stains on the filter connection. Check the condition of the engine oil and top up the missing amount.
