Its removal and installation on a gasoline engine can be easily done after removing the oil filter. Disconnect the wire from the battery terminals. After this, drain the cooling system, remove the water hoses from the filter and loosen the large nut in the middle of the oil cooler. Unscrew the filter. The filter is installed in reverse order. Tighten the nuts to 30-40 Nm. For a diesel engine, the work is somewhat more extensive and should be performed according to the instructions in Figure 123:
Figure 123. Details of removal and installation of diesel engine oil cooler 1. Drive roller; 2 Water hose; 3. Connecting bolt; 4. Oil cooler; 5. Oil filter; 6. Oil filter housing; 7. Oil filter base; 8 Plug, 20-30 Nm; 9. Pressure spring; 10. Spool; 11. Safety valve spring; 12. Steel ball; 13. Bolt, 8-11 Nm; 14. Nut, 37-52 Nm; 15. Plug, 20-30 Nm
Disconnect the battery; empty the cooling unit.
If the drive roller (1) is installed, remove it after loosening the bolts.
Unscrew the bolts from the middle of the oil cooler and remove it.
If you need to remove the oil filter base, follow the further details in the drawing. Installation is carried out in reverse order. If the filter base was removed, tighten the three large bolts around the oil cooler seat to 37-53 Nm, and the other two to 8-11 Nm. Lubricate the new "O"-ring with oil. Also insert a new seal onto the oil cooler bolt and screw it on. The tightening torque for the bolt is 25-35 Nm. Tighten the drive roller to 19-25 Nm. Finally, refill the cooling system.
