3.2.1. Removing and installing the oil pump
For gasoline engine:
- Disconnect the battery wires from the terminals.
- Place the front of the car on jack stands so that the left wheel remains on the ground. Apply the hand brake.
- Unscrew the front wheel and the reflector from the inside of the wheel arch.
- Turn the engine until the piston of the first cylinder is at the top dead center of the compression stroke. If the mark on the crankshaft belt pulley is opposite the "OT" mark on the ignition timing panel, the engine is at top dead center.

- Drain the engine oil. If the oil has not been in use for long, it can be collected and used again.
- Release the V-belt brace of the brushless alternator, press the alternator inward and remove the V-belt.
- Engage first gear and loosen the belt pulley bolts. Remove the pulley.
- Unscrew the upper and lower protective covers of the distribution mechanism. Remove the seal.
- Loosen the timing belt tensioner bolts, push the tensioner inward and tighten the bolts again. Mark the outside of the V-belt with paint to indicate the direction of rotation and remove the belt from the belt pulley. Store the belt away from oil and make sure it is not bent.
- With the gear still engaged, loosen the crankshaft drive gear bolts and remove the drive gear. If necessary, install tire mounting paddles in two opposite places.
- Remove the oil pan as described in the next chapter.
- Unscrew the suction pipe from the inside of the crankcase. On figure 111 it shows where the mesh is screwed on.
- Unscrew the pump mounting bolts from the front of the cylinder block.
- Remove the pump. Do not use any seals. The pump is installed in reverse order, observing the following points.
- Always change the oil seals in the pump housing.
- Using the drawing 115, grease a new "O"-shaped sealing ring and insert it into the hole in the corner of the pump.
- Lubricate the pump surfaces with sealant. At the same time, make sure that it cannot get into the oil holes.
- Install the pump on the engine without damaging the oil seal ring. Tighten M8 bolts to 19-26 Nm, M10 bolts to 37-52 Nm.
- When installing and tensioning the timing belt, follow the engine assembly instructions for a standard or DOHC engine. Tension the water pump V-belt as described in the "Cooling System" chapter. After installing the oil pan, fill the engine with oil.

Diesel engine
- Disconnect the wire from the battery terminals.
- Place the front of the car on jack stands so that the left wheel remains on the ground. Apply the handbrake.
- Unscrew the right front wheel and the reflector from the inside of the wheel arch.
- Drain the engine oil. If the oil has not been in use for long, it can be collected and used again.
- Release the V-belt brace of the brushless alternator, press the alternator inward and remove the V-belt.
- Remove the timing belt as described in chapter 2.8.3.
- Remove the camshaft drive gear as described when disassembling the engine.
- Remove the high pressure fuel pump drive gear as described when disassembling the engine.
- Unscrew the large sealing sheet from the engine control side.
- Loosen the bolts and remove the crankshaft drive gear.
- Remove the oil pan as described in the next chapter.
- Unscrew the exhaust pipe from the inside of the crankcase. On figure 111 it shows where the mesh is screwed on.
- Unscrew the pump mounting bolts on the front side of the cylinder bolt.
- Remove the pump. Do not use any seals. The pump is installed in the reverse order of removal, observing the following points:
Always renew the oil pump housing oil seal rings.
Just as shown in the figure 115. Lubricate the "O"-shaped sealing ring with grease and insert it into the hole in the corner of the pump.
Lubricate the pump surfaces with sealant. At the same time, be careful that it does not get into the oil holes.
Install the pump on the engine without damaging the oil seal ring. Tighten M8 bolts to 19-26 Nm, M10 bolts to 37-52 Nm.
When installing and tensioning the timing belt, follow the instructions for assembling a diesel engine. Reset the water pump V-belt tension as described in the "Cooling System" chapter. After installing the oil pan, fill the engine with oil.
3.2.2. Repair (overhaul) of the oil pump
- The pump is shown in the figure as an installation drawing 113 (gasoline engine) or 114 (diesel engine) and the work must be carried out using these drawings as a guide:
- Unscrew the oil pump cover on the inside of the front housing.
- Remove the internal and external gears from the housing. Since the outer gear of the gasoline engine pump is not marked with the installation direction, it is necessary to make a mark on the back side with a pencil before removing the gears. As can be seen from the assembly drawings, the internal gear of the pump in a gasoline engine is driven by the planes of the crankshaft, while the gear of a diesel engine has a toothed ring gear that is mounted on the toothed ring gear of the crankshaft.
- For a petrol engine, remove the retaining spring ring from the front housing and shake out the safety valve parts; for a diesel engine, unscrew the plugs from the housing, shake out the spring and relieve the pressure. Clean all parts thoroughly and replace them if necessary. If the front housing or cover have signs of wear on the working surfaces, they must be replaced; otherwise, you need to carefully remove the oil seal ring with a screwdriver. Check the overpressure valve piston bore for wear or rust spots. Check the gears on the rotor teeth or blades for chipping, etc. Always replace the gears as a set. When checking parts, proceed as follows:
- Gears as shown in the figure 116, insert into the hole and use the template to measure the gap between the outer side of the outer gear and the pump hole. The gap should not be more than 0.2 mm. For a diesel engine (as well as the DOHC engine) the check is carried out as shown in the figure 117. The wear limits are the same.

- When checking the standard engine, measure the clearance between the outer gear and the crescent-shaped insert using a template (see figure 118, right). The gap in this area should not be more than 0.35 mm. Perform the same check on the internal gear (figure 118, left), but this time the measurement is taken between the internal gear and the crescent-shaped insert. The gap at this point should not be greater than 0.40 mm. For diesel and DOHC engines, the template is inserted as shown in the figure 119. The wear limit for a DOHC engine is 0.18 mm, while for a diesel engine it is 0.24 mm.

- Place a measuring ruler on the top surface of the gears and measure between the gears and the ruler. The gap should not be more than 0.10 mm (gasoline engine) or 0.14 mm (diesel engine). The measurement is shown in the figure 120 and all engines are carried out in a similar manner. If the above measurements show large values, then the gears in the set must be replaced. The oil pump is assembled in the reverse order of disassembly. Insert the outer gear with the marked surface facing outward. On a diesel engine, both pump gears have markings stamped out using a center punch, which in all cases must face outward, as shown in the figure 121. Fill the pump holes with oil before screwing on the cover. Insert the safety valve parts and secure with the snap ring or screw in the plug and tighten to 28-39 Nm (diesel engine).
