Examination
Sensor N1 (located on the ignition distributor)
1. Remove the ignition distributor and reconnect the larger of the two connectors.
2. Connect a voltmeter to the CKP1 and GRD terminals. Rotate the distributor shaft and check that the voltmeter needle deflects four times per full revolution on four-cylinder models and six times on six-cylinder models.
3. Replace the sensor if it is faulty.
₂ sensor (located on the cylinder block)

4. Measure the gap between the sensor (indicated by the arrow) and a toothed wheel on the crankshaft. It should be 0.5–1.5 mm.
5. Check that the resistance between terminals A and B of the sensor connector is approximately 550 ohms. Replace the sensor if necessary.
Replacement (N₂ sensor)
1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
2. Disconnect the sensor connection connector, unscrew the mounting bolts and remove the sensor.
3. Installation is carried out in the reverse order of removal.
