Removal



1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.

2. Remove the lower engine shield and drive belts.

3. Remove the generator. Remove the air conditioning compressor and move it to the side, do not disconnect the hoses from the compressor.

4. Remove the timing belt and crankshaft sprocket.

5. Remove the oil pan and, after unscrewing the three fasteners, remove the oil intake pipe.

6. Using the reverse tightening sequence, remove the engine reinforcement section bolts.

7. Remove the oil pump bolts and nuts and remove the pump.



Examination



1. Remember the depth of the oil seal. Remove the oil seal from the pump housing.

2. Remove the screws and remove the oil pump cover.

3. Remove the pump pressure relief valve. Remove the internal and external pump gears. Rinse all pump components in solvent.

4. Install the gears into the pump housing and take the following measurements. Measure the clearance between the driven gear and the pump housing.

5. Measure the gap between the gear teeth.

6. Measure the clearance between the gear plane and the pump casing plane.



7. Measure the length of the pressure reducing valve spring and replace the spring if necessary.

8. Lubricate the new oil seal with oil and install it in place.

9. Lubricate the pressure relief valve piston with oil and install the valve elements into the pump housing.

10. Lubricate the pump gears with clean engine oil.

11. Fill the pump cavities with Vaseline.

12. Install the oil pump cover and tighten the cover screws, after lubricating them with sealant.

Installation



1. Thoroughly clean and wipe the mating surfaces of the oil pump and cylinder block with acetone.

2. Install a new oil pump gasket, applying silicone sealant to the surface of the gasket that contacts the pump. Install the pump on the cylinder block.

3. Insert the bolts and tighten them to the specified torque.

4. Apply sealant around the perimeter of the engine reinforcement section and around the four rear bolt holes of the section. Install the reinforcement section and tighten the bolts in the sequence shown.
