Attention! The engine must be completely cool.
Removing
1. Release the pressure in the fuel system.
2. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
3. Drain the coolant from the engine and radiator.
4. Drain the engine oil and remove the oil filter.
5. Remove the air intake pipe.
6. Remove the spark plugs.
7. Remove the intake manifold.
8. Remove the exhaust manifold.
9. Remove the cylinder head cover.
10. Remove the timing belt covers and the belt itself.
11. Remove the power steering pump and alternator drive belts.
12. Remove the alternator bracket.
13. Remove the crankshaft sensor and the ignition distributor or ignition coil.
14. Remove the bolts securing the power steering pump and position the pump aside without disconnecting the hoses from it.
15. Disconnect the hoses, unscrew the four bolts and disconnect the coolant bypass pipe. Disconnect all hoses and wires that interfere with the removal of the cylinder head.
16. Remove camshafts and pushers.
17. Using the reverse sequence of tightening, loosen in several sets (1/4 turn) cylinder head bolts.
18. Remove the cylinder head.
19. Thoroughly clean the inside of the head (see subsection 3.2.10).
Installation
1. Thoroughly clean the mating surfaces of the head and cylinder block.
2. Inspect the head and block surfaces for deep scratches and other damage. If the surface is not badly damaged, it can be treated with fine sandpaper.
3. Using an appropriately sized tap and compressed air, clean the cylinder head bolt holes.
4. Install a new head gasket with the TOP mark up and install the head.
5. Insert new head bolts and tighten them in several stages in the sequence shown.
6. Install remaining parts, fill with oil and coolant.
7. Start the engine and check for leaks.
