Method and Precautions
If you are removing the engine for the first time, you need to prepare a room for this, preferably equipped with a hoist. You will need an assistant, ideally someone with specialized knowledge and experience. It is also necessary to prepare all the necessary tools and observe all the necessary precautions during this complex procedure.
Removing
1. Release the pressure in the fuel system.
2. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
3. Remove the hood.
4. Raise and secure the front of the vehicle.
5. Drain coolant, engine oil, transmission oil and remove all drive belts.
6. Remove the front wheels.
7. Disconnect all vacuum hoses, hoses of the cooling system and the exhaust system, disconnect the wires and fuel hoses. Mark both ends before disconnecting wires and hoses.
8. Remove the air filter and resonator.
9. Remove the engine protection plate.
10. Remove the battery bracket, battery cover and the battery itself.
11. Disconnect the accelerator cable.
12. Remove the windshield washer reservoir and coolant reservoir.
13. Disconnect heater hoses.
14. Remove the cooling fan, radiator hoses and the radiator itself.
15. Remove the fuel filler cap, and then disconnect the fuel lines from the engine.
16. Disconnect the power steering pump and secure it to the side.
17. Disconnect the air conditioner compressor and secure it to the side. Do not disconnect refrigerant hoses.
18. Disconnect the cables from the engine.
19. Disconnect the clutch release cylinder, shift rod and cable.
20. Disconnect the front section of the exhaust pipe and axle shaft.
21. Connect the engine to the lift.
22. Check that the motor is not connected to anything.
23. Place a jack under the transmission and remove the dynamic damper, engine mount brackets and engine bracket.
24. Connect the lift. Carefully lift the engine together with the gearbox.
25. Disconnect the gearbox and flywheel from the engine and fix the engine on a special stand.
26. On automatic transmission models, remove the torque converter clamps and press the torque converter into the transmission housing.
27. Unscrew bolts and disconnect a transmission from the engine.
Installation
1. Inspect engine and transmission mounts and replace if necessary.
2. Inspect the clutch or gasket and torque converter clutch.
3. Lubricate the torque converter with grease and put it on the gearbox input shaft and front pump splines.
4. Insert and tighten engine and gearbox bolts.
5. Install the engine and gearbox in the car, tighten the mounting bolts, install the remaining parts, hoses and wires.
6. Fill with engine oil, coolant and transmission oil. Start the engine and check its operation.
