Method and precautions



If you are removing the engine for the first time, you need to prepare a room for this, preferably equipped with a lift. You will need an assistant, ideally someone with specialized knowledge and experience. It is also necessary to prepare all the necessary tools and observe all necessary safety precautions during this complex procedure.

Removal



1. Relieve the pressure in the fuel system.

2. Disconnect the negative battery cable.

3. Remove the hood.

4. Raise and support the front of the vehicle.

5. Drain the coolant, engine oil, transmission oil and remove all drive belts.

6. Remove the front wheels.

7. Disconnect all vacuum hoses, coolant and exhaust hoses, disconnect wires and fuel hoses. Before disconnecting wires and hoses, mark both ends.

8. Remove the air filter and resonator.

9. Remove the engine protection plate.

10. Remove the battery bracket, battery cover and the battery itself.

11. Disconnect the accelerator cable.

12. Remove the windshield washer reservoir and coolant reservoir.

13. Disconnect the heater hoses.



14. Remove the cooling fan, radiator hoses and the radiator itself.

15. Remove the fuel tank filler cap and then disconnect the fuel lines from the engine.

16. Disconnect the power steering pump and secure it to the side.

17. Disconnect the air conditioning compressor and secure it to the side. Do not disconnect the refrigerant hoses.

18. Disconnect the cables from the engine.

19. Disconnect the clutch release cylinder, shift rod and cable.

20. Disconnect the front section of the exhaust pipe and axle shafts.

21. Connect the engine to the lift.

22. Make sure the motor is not connected to anything.

23. Place a jack under the transmission and remove the dynamic damper, engine mount brackets and engine bracket.

24. Connect the lift. Carefully lift the engine together with the gearbox.

25. Disconnect the gearbox and flywheel from the engine and secure the engine on a special stand.



26. On automatic transmission models, remove the torque converter clamps and press the torque converter into the transmission housing.

27. Remove the bolts and separate the gearbox from the engine.

Installation



1. Inspect the engine and gearbox mounts and replace them if necessary.

2. Inspect the clutch or gasket and torque converter clutch.

3. Lubricate the torque converter with grease and place it on the transmission input shaft and the front pump splines.

4. Insert and tighten the engine and gearbox bolts.

5. Install the engine and gearbox into the vehicle, tighten the mounting bolts, install the remaining parts, hoses and wires.

6. Add engine oil, coolant and transmission fluid. Start the engine and check its operation.
