Bulkhead
1. Remove camshafts and valve adjusters.
2. Using the special tool, compress the valve spring.
3. Remove the valve taper bushings.
4. Remove the plate, spring and spring seat.
5. Remove the valve through the combustion chamber.
6. After removal, place each valve and its elements in a separate labeled bag.
Cleaning
1. Carefully clean off any traces of old head gaskets with a scraper or special solvent.
2. Remove deposits from the holes in the head.
3. Clean any dirt and sealant residue from the threaded holes.
4. Clean the head with solvent and dry it.
5. Solvent clean and dry valve adjusters, valve springs, taper bushings, poppets, and spring seats.
6. Clean the valves.
Examination
1. Check the cylinder head for cracks and damage, if necessary, the head must be processed on a special machine or replaced.
2. Using a straightedge and a feeler gauge, check that the surface on which the head gasket is being installed is not deformed (showing a typical cylinder head).
3. Check the valve seats, if they have any damage, contact a specialist.
4. Measure clearances between guide bushings and valve stems. The gap should be approximately 1.6 mm. Bushings must be replaced if necessary.
