Note: The trunk lid is very heavy and awkward to use. therefore, we recommend removing and installing the cover with an assistant.

Removal and installation

1. Open the trunk lid and cover the corners of the trunk with rags to protect the surrounding parts when removing the lid.

2. Disconnect the wiring connectors for the license plate lamps, brake lights, trunk lock actuator, and then disconnect the wires from the trunk lid (see paragraphs 22 and 23). Before pulling the wires out of the trunk lid, tie them with twine to make subsequent assembly easier.

3. On the Mazda 626, mark the position of the trunk lid hinges.

4. On the MX-6 model, remove the trunk lid support posts (see paragraph 26).

5. Remove the bolts/nuts securing the hinges to the trunk lid and remove the lid from the car.

6. Installation is carried out in the reverse order of removal. Before tightening the cover mounting bolts, align the hinges with the marks made before crushing.

Adjustment

7. Once installed, close the cover and ensure it aligns with the surrounding panels. The lid can be adjusted forward and backward and left and right by moving the lid hinges. To adjust, loosen the hinge mounting bolts and slide the cover in the desired direction. Tighten the hinge mounting bolts.

6. The height of the rear edge of the lid is adjusted by moving the lid latch. Loosen the latch mounting bolts and move it in the desired direction (up-down or left-right), then tighten the latch mounting bolts.

Note: Before starting the adjustment, mark the latch position.
