During prolonged braking, the gearbox automatically shifts to a lower gear for more effective engine braking.
When driving with a cold engine, the transmission control unit uses a special gear shift program that reduces harmful emissions and allows the engine to warm up to operating temperature more quickly.
Starting the engine in models with automatic transmission
When starting the engine, set the gear selector to position N or P. Press the brake pedal and engage the starter.
Shifting to a lower gear (kick-down mode)
If you need to suddenly increase traction or acceleration, for example when overtaking another vehicle, to overcome a steep climb, and in other situations, press the accelerator pedal all the way down. The gearbox will shift to a lower gear.
Towing a car with an automatic transmission
The peculiarity of an automatic transmission is that, unlike a conventional manual transmission, it has a forced lubrication system. Therefore, when the engine is not running, when the transmission hydraulic system pump is stopped, the friction joints of the transmission are not lubricated and it is impossible to engage any gear. In this regard, when towing a vehicle with an automatic transmission, certain requirements must be observed.
- Set the gear selector to position N (neutral).
- Tow the vehicle at a speed not exceeding 50 km/h for a distance of no more than 50 km.
- If the towing distance exceeds 50 km, stop to cool the transmission.
- Do not add automatic transmission fluid until towing is complete.
