When driving with a cold engine, the transmission control unit uses a special shift program that reduces emissions and allows the engine to warm up to operating temperature faster.
Starting the engine in models with automatic transmission
When starting the engine, set the gearbox selector to position N or P. Press the brake pedal and turn on the starter.
Downshifts (mode "kick-down")
Fully depress the accelerator pedal when you need to sharply increase traction or acceleration, such as when overtaking another vehicle, climbing a steep hill, or in other situations. The transmission will shift to a lower gear.
Towing a car with an automatic transmission
A feature of an automatic transmission is that, unlike a conventional manual transmission, it has a forced lubrication system. Therefore, when the engine is not running, when the transmission hydraulic pump is stopped, the friction joints of the transmission are not lubricated and no gear can be engaged. In this regard, when towing a car with an automatic transmission, certain requirements must be observed.
- Set the gear selector to position N (neutral).
- Tow the vehicle at a speed of 50 km/h or less for a distance of 50 km or less.
- If the towing distance exceeds 50 km, stop to cool down the transmission.
- Do not add oil to the automatic transmission before towing is complete.
