5.3.1. Removal and installation

  • Disconnect the hose between the carburetor and the pump and remove both other hoses. The ends of the hoses should be marked in a convenient way, since one of them is the supply hose and the other is the outlet hose.
  • Release the pump hoses.
  • Under normal conditions, it should be sufficient if the idle speed is adjusted by the throttle valve bolt. Remove the pump with the intermediate flange and seal from the cylinder head (figure 137).

The fuel pump is installed in the reverse order of removal. Replace the seal if necessary. Be careful not to mix up the hoses when installing.

5.3.2. Pump repair

The fuel pump cannot be repaired and is replaced if it breaks.

Low pressure or insufficient capacity leads to poor engine performance. To check if the pump is the cause, you need to disconnect the fuel supply line from the carburetor and install a pressure gauge in this place. Keep the fuel hose in a measuring container (figure 138). Turn on the ignition and start the engine. Take pressure gauge readings while the engine is running. If the pressure is within 0.20-0.30 bar for a 2.0-liter engine or 0.20-0.27 for other engines, then the pump is correct. If faulty, replace the pump.

To check the performance, connect the hose to the hose disconnected from the carburetor and hold the end of the hose in a measuring cup, as shown in the figure 138. Pour 860 cm³ of fuel while the engine is idling. This amount of fuel should be collected in no more than one minute.
