The charging system consists of a generator, a voltage regulator and a battery. These components work together to provide power to the vehicle's electrical system.
The generator is driven by a drive belt on the front of the engine. When the engine is running, the generator generates electricity and sends it to the battery for storage.
The purpose of a voltage regulator is to limit the generator voltage to a preset value. This prevents power fluctuation, circuit overload, etc., during peak voltage release. On all models described in this manual, the voltage regulator is located within the alternator housing.
The charging system requires little periodic maintenance. The battery, drive belts, electrical wiring and connections should be inspected at the intervals suggested in Section 1.
Be careful when working with the generator. When connecting the alternator to the battery, always observe the correct polarity. Before using arc welding, disconnect the wires from the generator and the battery pole. Never start the engine with the charger connected. Do not start the engine with the alternator disconnected and do not disconnect the battery while the engine is running.
