Checking power wires (Mazda Capella GC)

Check each power wire periodically. There should be no mechanical damage, burnt or cracked insulation, or signs of corrosion along the entire length of the wire. Due to the poor condition of the wire connections, starting the engine is difficult.

Check the condition of the wire clamps. Cracks, loosening of the clamp fastening and corrosion are not allowed. A white coating under the insulation where the wire connects to the clamp indicates that the wire is corroded and needs to be replaced. Check for deformation of the clamps, integrity of the threads of the nut and clamp mounting bolt, and traces of corrosion.

If you only need to replace the cable connected to the positive battery terminal, first disconnect the cable from the negative battery terminal.

Disconnect the wire and remove it from the vehicle. Make sure the length and diameter of the new wire exactly matches the length and diameter of the wire being replaced. Use a wire brush to remove rust from the threaded connections to the starter or ground. To facilitate installation and prevent corrosion, apply a thin layer of petroleum jelly to the threads. Check connections as often as possible, tighten them and keep them clean.

Connect the wire to the starter or ground, tighten the nuts securely.
