Periodically check each power wire. The entire length of the wire must be free of mechanical damage, burning or cracking of the insulation and traces of corrosion. Due to the unsatisfactory condition of the wire connections, starting the engine is difficult.
Check the condition of the wire clamps. Cracks, loose clamp fastening and corrosion are not allowed. A white coating under the insulation at the junction of the wire with the clamp indicates corrosion of the wire and the need to replace it. Check for deformations of the clamps, the integrity of the thread of the nut and bolt of the clamp, traces of corrosion.
If only the wire connected to the positive battery terminal needs to be replaced, first disconnect the wire from the negative battery terminal.
Disconnect the wire and remove it from the vehicle. Make sure the length and diameter of the new wire exactly matches the length and diameter of the wire being replaced. Use a wire brush to remove rust from threaded connections to the starter or «weight». Apply a thin coat of petroleum jelly to the threads to facilitate installation and prevent corrosion. Check the connections as often as possible, tighten them and keep them clean.
Connect wire to starter or «mass», tighten the nuts securely.
Before attaching a new wire to the battery, make sure it is long enough to install without tension.
Connect the wire to the positive battery terminal first, then to the negative terminal.
