17.1.1. Brake pedal clearance
Turn off the engine and apply the brake pedal until all vacuum is released from the unit. Place your thumb and index finger on the brake pedal and move it back and forth.
If the gap is not between 4-7 mm, then the brake torque booster push rod needs to be repositioned. After adjustment, tighten the lock nut again. Start the engine and check that there is pedal clearance at all times while the engine is running.
17.1.2. Pedal height adjustment
The height from the floor to the top of the pedal rubber should be 222 mm. Adjustment is made using the brake light switch on the top of the pedal. Loosen the switch lock nut until the switch is turned. After adjustment, check the pedal clearance and adjust if necessary.
17.1.3. Adjusting the handbrake
- Start the engine and press the pedal 2-3 times. This sets the adjustment mechanism into operation. After this, turn off the engine again.
- Pull up on the handbrake lever and count the number of "clicks" on the ratchet mechanisms. The handbrake should set the rear wheels at 5-7 teeth.
If adjustment is necessary:
- Place the rear of the car on jack stands, support the front wheels with wedges and release the handbrake.
- On the handbrake lever side, remove the safety clamp of the adjusting nut and use the socket head and extension to adjust the adjusting nut at the end of the handbrake cable until the adjustment matches the above data.
- Turn on the ignition, insert the handbrake lever into the locking groove and check that the warning light is on.
- Release the handbrake and check that both rear wheels rotate freely without grinding the brake shoe linings on the drums.
