Attention! Gasoline is a flammable liquid, so when working with your favorite element of the fuel system, take all fire safety measures. See the warning at the beginning paragraph 2.
Removing
1. Disconnect the negative cable from the battery.
Warning. If your car's audio system is equipped with an anti-theft protection, make sure you know the unlock code before disconnecting the battery.
2. Relieve pressure in the fuel system (see paragraph 2).
3. Disconnect the electrical connectors of the injectors (see fig. 12.9).
4. Disconnect the fuel return hose from the pressure regulator.
Note. return hose (smaller diameter) connected to the pressure regulator with a spring clip, while the fuel supply line (larger diameter) connected to the fuel rail fitting.
5. Disconnect all ground rails from the fuel rail.
6. Unscrew the bolt of the fuel supply pipe fitting on the fuel rail, the sealing washers of the fitting can be discarded - new ones are needed for assembly. On a Y-engine, disconnect the jumper from the ramp to be removed (pic. 15.6). and also remove the air cleaner (see paragraph 9).
7.. Turn out bolts of fastening of a ramp and remove a ramp from the engine. On a V-twin engine of the day, this will require a ramp to be shifted (ramps) towards the left side of the car. Remove the sealing sleeves from the bolt holes into which the ramp bolts were screwed. Disconnect the injector wiring from the rail.
8. Pull the injectors out of the rail, remove the sealing rings from the nick, as well as the sealing bushings of the injectors in the manifold (pic. 15.8,a,6).
Note. If for some reason you had to remove the ramp, it is recommended to remove all nozzles from it and replace the o-rings with them.
Installation
9. Insert new sealing bushings into the holes for the rail mounting bolts.
10. Dip new injector O-rings in engine oil and install them on the injectors. Insert the nozzles into the corresponding holes in the rail.
11. Install the ramp on the intake manifold. Tighten the ramp mounting bolts to the required torque.
12. The rest of the assembly is performed in the reverse order of disassembly.
13. After installing the ramp, turn on the ignition (but don't start the engine). The fuel pump should turn on for about two seconds and pressurize the system. Repeat this operation two or three times and make sure there are no leaks from under the ramp and injectors.
