Caution! Gasoline is highly flammable, so take all fire safety precautions when working with any part of the fuel system. See warning at beginning paragraph 2.

Removal

1. Disconnect the negative cable from the battery.

Warning. If your vehicle's audio system is equipped with anti-theft protection, make sure you have the unlock code before disconnecting the battery.

2. Relieve the pressure in the fuel system (see paragraph 2).

3. Disconnect the electrical connectors of the injectors (see Figure 12.9).

4. Disconnect the fuel return hose from the pressure regulator.

Note: Return hose (smaller diameter) connected to the pressure regulator with a spring clamp, while the fuel supply line (larger diameter) connected to the fuel rail fitting.

5. Disconnect all grounding buses from the fuel rail.

6. Unscrew the bolt of the fuel supply line fitting on the fuel rail. The sealing washers of the fitting can be thrown away - new ones are needed for assembly. On a V-engine, disconnect the jumper from the ramp that is to be removed (figure 15.6). and also remove the air cleaner (see paragraph 9).

7.. Unscrew the ramp mounting bolts and remove the ramp from the engine. On a V-engine, this will require moving the ramp(s) towards the left fender of the car. Remove the sealing bushings from the bolt holes into which the ramp bolts were screwed. Disconnect the injector wiring from the ramp.

8. Remove the injectors from the manifold, remove the sealing rings from the manifold, and also the sealing bushings of the injectors in the manifold (figure 15.8,a,6).

Note: If you have to remove the fuel rail for any reason, we recommend removing all the injectors and replacing their O-rings.

Installation

9. Insert new sealing bushings into the holes for the ramp mounting bolts.

10. Dip the new injector sealing rings in engine oil and install them on the injectors. Insert the nozzles into the corresponding holes of the ramp.

11. Install the ramp onto the intake manifold. Tighten the ramp mounting bolts to the specified torque.

12. The rest of the assembly is carried out in the reverse order of disassembly.

13. After installing the ramp, turn on the ignition (but don't start the engine). The fuel pump should turn on for about two seconds and create pressure in the system. Repeat this operation two or three times and make sure there are no leaks from under the ramp and injectors.
