1. If the flywheel ring gear teeth are damaged, the mechanism can be replaced as follows. (The drive disk ring gear cannot be separated from the drive disk).
2. Remove the flywheel as described in Chapter 20.
3. Heat the ring gear with a blowtorch and knock it out of the flywheel with a hammer and punch.
4. Heat the new ring gear to 250-300°C, preferably in an oven or oil bath. Place the heated mechanism on the flywheel. The beveled side of the mechanism should face the engine. If necessary, tap the mechanism in place with a hammer and punch.
5. Install the flywheel (Chapter 20).
