- Raise the car from the front and unscrew the wheel.
- Disconnect the ball joint of the tie rod from the steering knuckle arm.
- Loosen the lock nut near the tie rod end and unscrew the ball joint head while simultaneously counting the turns to completely remove the head.
- Loosen the clamp on the inner side of the tie rod and the small clamp on the outer side and pull out the sleeve.
- Insert the new cuff into the steering column and secure it inside with new safety wire.
- Screw the tie rod end back onto the tie rod using exactly the same number of turns that were required to unscrew it. The tie rod should still have 12.0 mm of thread remaining if the tie rod end position was not marked or the end was replaced. Figure 214 shows where this size was determined.
- Connect the tie rod end to the steering knuckle arm and tighten the slotted nut to 30–40 Nm. Insert a new cotter pin.
- After installation, check the alignment and adjust as described earlier. Tighten the tie rod slotted nut to 70-100 Nm.
Figure 214. The thread length (12 mm) must be maintained after screwing on the new tie rod end.
