Location of the idle air control valve (models with a 6-cylinder engine)

The air valve controls the supply of air to the engine at idle, thus regulating the idle speed.
Examination
1. Connect the tachometer. Start the engine and increase the RPM to 3000. Wait for the radiator cooling fan to turn on and measure the engine idle speed (all electrical equipment in the car must be turned off). If the idle speed is too low, disconnect the air valve connection connector. The engine speed should begin to fluctuate after the valve connection connector is disconnected. If not, the valve is probably faulty.
2. Measure the resistance between the valve terminals. It should be 7.7–9.3 Ohm (models with a four-cylinder engine), 10.7–12.3 Ohm (models with a six-cylinder engine produced between 1993 and 1997) or 8.7–10.5 Ohm (1998 six-cylinder models). Replace the valve if necessary.
Replacement
1. Disconnect the valve connection connector, unscrew the mounting screws and remove the valve.
2. Installation is carried out in the reverse order of removal. Replace the valve sealing ring.
