Removal
1. Disconnect the negative battery cable and remove the air cleaner assembly.
2. Drain the coolant (Section 1).
3. Remove the air filter assembly.
4. Disconnect the throttle valve and (if equipped) the downshift valve and the cruise control cables and the vacuum hose from the carburetor.
5. Disconnect the heater hose on the heat shield and the brake vacuum hose from the installation on the vacuum reservoir.
6. Disconnect and plug the fuel line on the fuel pump.
7. Disconnect the carbon filter hose from the carburetor and the cleaning hoses (if equipped).
8. Disconnect the four electrical connectors adjacent to the carburetor.
9. Identify any remaining hoses and connections that are preventing manifold removal and disconnect them.
10. Remove the manifold retaining nuts and bolts, pull the intake manifold off the struts and separate it from the cylinder head.
11. Remove the gasket.
12. Clean all traces of gasket and other foreign material from the manifold and cylinder head mating surfaces, being careful not to damage the soft aluminum surface.

13. Install the new gasket, position the manifold on the mounts and install the lock nuts and bolts. Tighten nuts and bolts to the torque specified in the Specifications. Tighten from the center of the manifold in a diagonal sequence.
14. Install the components that were removed to gain access to the intake manifold.
